Fall, My Favorite Season

Fall, oh how I love you! The colors of the leaves, the cozy sweaters, football (well, COVID football … meh? That’s a whole other post). Always loved fall in north GA, specifically Athens. As soon as the temp drops below 80, I’m happy. That drop means yellow mums, caramel apples, corn mazes, pumpkins, turkey china, and Halloween. I grew up trick-or-treating in Kingswood, just off Timothy road. I knew the neighbors who gave out candied and caramel apples, and I made sure I was one of the first to yell, “Trick or treat!” The slight nip in the air allowed for those furry onezie-type costumes that you would die of heat exhaustion in in south GA. I sported a Chewbacca costume one year; I wish I could find that thing.

September 1: fall decor start. My grandmother passed in March (we don’t think it was Covid). She could cook like … I don’t even know!?! Like shut-up, sit down, and eat. Thanksgiving was huge at her house. She seated the adults in the dining room using the Johnson Bros. turkey china, and anyone under 12 had to sit at the kitchen table or wherever, using her everyday china, which was not too shabby. When she died, my Aunt Cindy asked the children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren what we wanted out of the house. My first wish: THE TURKEY CHINA. My aunt graciously packed it up and brought it to me. Oh glorious day! The plates are on my dining room table:

Of course, the kitchen table needs special china, too, so Hobby Lobby has it covered! I fell in love with these pumpkin plates. I had the blue plates and the white chargers, so I just added the pumpkin salads plates and straw mats. All were 40% off.

And the foyer needed some love. This little white pumpkin owns my white table!
