Making Life Simple – the Christmas Tree That almost Wasn’t

We won’t be home for Christmas this year. Having unmarried adult children adds flexibility to the holidays. All I had to do was say, “Let’s go somewhere for Christmas. I’m payin’.” They were in. If you know me, you know how much I love Vegas. It’s my happy place; a place I relax like no other. Yes, I did write relax. For a south GA girl who loves wide open spaces, that may seem paradoxical, but the cacophony allows an anonymity that I crave. I book a spa day then lose myself in the mindless entertainment of a slot machine. But, we’re not going to Vegas. As I wrote earlier, “I’m payin’,” so plane tickets for four were more of a splurge than I was prepared for, so Biloxi, MS, here we come! I can’t wait to see the Christmas decor at the Beau Rivage! I’ll post pics next week. The spa day is booked, and I’m longing for my socially-distanced slot experience.

Because we won’t be here Christmas day, I thought, “Do I really need to put up a Christmas tree?” Being the only woman in the family, the tree decorating has always fallen on me. I could get the kids to help when they were younger, but they really don’t care now. My husband is a high school basketball coach, so he’s married to basketball for the month. So, I really debated not putting one up for the first time in my life. Some weird guilt came over me, and the next morning this happened:

This December, I strived to uncomplicate my life. Fall semester, even though virtual, wore me out; I had 183 students. That means I graded three-times that many essays. Hence, my wish for a relaxing December. I’ve found some great products that have helped to uncomplicate my life:

Alarm Clock with Charger – Amazon $30.66

In June, we went to Amelia Island and stayed at the Omni. On the nightstand in our room sat this convenient contraption. I don’t know about you, but if I wake up during the night, I like to know how much longer I have to sleep, and fumbling for my phone wakes me up even more making it difficult to fall back asleep. With this thing on my bedside table, I can clearly see the time. Of course, it also allows me to charge all my gadgets in one place! So, when traveling, I pack only the clock – goodbye to packing multiple chargers.

Next is this lovely brush:

Daily Concepts Daily Facial Dry Brush – Fabfitfun

The face brush came in my Fabfitfun winter box. It’s about six inches long and is to be used on a cleansed, dry face. I was skeptical at first, but my aging skin LOVES exfoliation. I’ve dropped my exfoliating cleanser that I went through like water – I resupplied monthly – and went with the brush and a moisturizing cleanser. Fewer trips to Ulta (sorry Ulta).

Last but not least:

Target’s All in Motion grey long-sleeved T
Blue Camo Jacket, Size M

The T has a cute tuck at the hip adding a polished look, and I love the thump-hole sleeves on cold days. Check out the look on Instagram. I plan to wear only lounge or workout clothes for the next few weeks. The T and jacket were a great find.
