Spent a fabulous evening out in Athens, GA Saturday night. Not a game weekend, so crowds were okay. We opened with dinner at the Expat in 5-points. Such a delightful spot; the 1930s craftsman cottage offers a casual yet classy atmosphere. We chose to sit on the front porch, and Taylor took such good care of us. Started with a cool glass of Pinot Grigio (always better outside ‘cuz GA humidity makes the glass sweat :)) and paired that with the Calabrese Salami antipasti. Served on a board, the sliced salami boasts a strong but not overpowering garlic taste that mixes well with the imbedded capers. I decided to step out of my fish comfort zone and order the Duck Breast. Taylor said chef recommends medium rare, so I followed the advice. I’d never eaten duck before, and I was skeptical – afraid it might taste gamey. Definitely not. When asked nicely, I shared with my husband. He described it as Filet Mignon with a chicken texture. Whatever, it was darn good! So, now, I know I like duck.
Next, we headed downtown to 40 Watt for, wait for it, yes, live music! It’s been WAAAY too long. We did have to show our vax cards and wear masks, but whatever, we were just thankful to hear music. The line-up:
